Ep 306 - Faroe Islands: Force of Nature

“Fly to the mystical North Atlantic archipelago, Faroe Islands, where the elements collide in an epic saga of tastes, sights, sounds, and magic!"

In this episode, Ernest flies to the mystical North Atlantic archipelago, Faroe Islands, where the elements collide in an epic saga of tastes, sights, sounds, and magic!

The adventure starts with a helicopter ride over to Stóra Dímun, a tiny island where Ernest meets farmers Eva and Jόgvan Jόn, who share the land with their large flock of sheep. Next, Ernest takes a joyride through the world’s only subsea tunnel roundabout named Eysturoyartunnil, which is a piece of art in itself. Ernest heads to Viðareiði to admire the epic coastal and mountain views.

Ernest then meets up with dancer and Faroe Islands native, Búi Rouch, to discuss how growing up in the Faroes has impacted his work as a performance maker, and even give Ernest a lesson in the native language. Ernest takes a drive over to the Múlafossur Waterfall, one of the Faroe’s most popular tourist attractions that is located in a village home to just 13 residents.

Ernest then heads over to the restaurant Ræst, where he joins chef Sebastián Jiménez for a Michelin-worthy meal and learns how Sebastián uses ancient traditions such as air drying and fermentation to create world-class meals.
