Ep 203 - Newark: Newark Is For Hustlers

“Infused with youthful energy and abuzz with a cosmopolitan vibe, Newark pulses with a spirit at once local and global.” —Ernest White II

Newark, known as Brick City, has history, culture, and a lot of heart! Join Ernest to explore this city’s artist culture, multicultural food, and diverse, inclusive communities.

Tiffany Aliche takes Ernest to Vonda’s Kitchen for a breakfast full of heart, soul, love, and laughter. He then meets up with his good friend Evita Robinson for a stroll in the park to talk about the city’s swag and what she loves most about it: the strong sense of community. Afterward, Evita takes him to Black Swan Espresso, a melting pot meeting place for entrepreneurs, artists, and students.

Ernest samples some decadent Brazilian sweets at GioDocinhos in the Ironbound District, which is a bustling immigrant neighborhood that’s not just part of the history but part of the present. Then it’s off to Seabra’s, one of the city’s best-known Portuguese eateries, for a delicious seafood lunch.

Hometown artist and entrepreneur Gabe Ribeiro explains how and why he came up with the slogan, “Newark is for Hustlers.”  Hint: it’s all about ingenuity, artistry, culture, and courage!

Glambassador Lauren LeBeaux takes Ernest to one of her favorite places to get grounded, Branchbrook Park, to chat about all the things she loves about the city.
