Ep 207 - Adirondacks: River Deep, Mountain High

“Everything about us as humans is reflective of our environment. If you live in a city your whole life, you’re not going to understand the forest so much–you’re not really going to have a connectiveness. You might have an appreciation, but it might take a little learning.” —David Kanietakeron Fadden

The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York are a nature lover’s paradise, featuring everything from hiking and freshwater fishing to maple syrup production. It’s both a winter wonderland and a summer playground!

Ernest starts out at the Wild Center museum and educational center, for a chat with artist and storyteller David Kanietakeron Fadden about his deep connection to the land and the people of the region.

Sportscaster John Morgan takes Ernest up to the summit of popular ski destination Whiteface Mountain to take in the sweeping views as far as the eye can see. John then takes Ernest for a couple of runs on the Lake Placid bobsled track.

Ernest tries his hand at fly fishing with Brandon Seifert on the pristine Au Sable River, then shares a few laughs and tours Saranac Lake with the mayor, Clyde Rabideau. Finally, Ernest goes for a relaxing boat ride in the town of Inlet with local panini empresaria Jill Marsh and her dog, Tootsie.
