FLY BROTHER Radio #007: Talent Manager & Veteran Michael Carter

"Every single step of the journey is important to bring you to where you are today, even if it's a disappointment.” —Michael Carter

FLY BROTHER Radio with Michael Carter

On this episode of the Fly Brother Radio Show, Ernest sits down with Michael Carter, a talent manager, entertainer, entrepreneur, retired soldier, and native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Michael dives into his upbringing with a family full of people with musical talent, traveling from church to church performing in choirs around Mississippi. Although he may not have realized it at the time, these trips were his first introduction to travel. His adventures really took off, however, when he joined the U.S. Army.

Michael speaks about what made his experience in the military so enriching as he met people from around the world and got his first opportunity to go abroad. His first overseas assignment was in Germany, where he even joined a German-American band that performed all over the country. During his time in the military, Michael also performed as part of the traveling U.S. Army Soldier Show. Ernest and Michael also discuss the air of acceptance and safety they’ve both felt in Germany, the fun of nightclubs there, and more.

Beyond the fun and freedom of Germany, Michael also describes his deployment in conflict zones in Bosnia and how it made him appreciate his upbringing in the U.S. despite its own difficulties. In the end, Michael completed 22 years of military service and traveled to 45 states and 14 countries around the world.

After retiring, Michael appeared in the award-winning short film Some Fun Tonight and started his own talent agency, Carterboyz Entertainment. Michael gives Ernest some insight into the musicians he works with, the hopes he has for their careers, and the meaning behind his agency’s name.
