The Land of the Rising Sun has had regularly scheduled commercial air service since the early 1920s, with the exception of a few years during that war which shall go unnamed. As an archipelago, Japan has constantly benefited from aviation as a way to connect the various islands at jet speed. Meanwhile, airlines from Europe and North America used Orientalism and stylized geisha to woo travelers to and from Japan at a time when the exotic and mysterious “Far East” meant intrigue and adventure.
