Ep 303 - Brisbane, Australia: The Biggest Backyard in the World

“Enjoy bridges, tasty treats, outdoor adventures, and koalas in the biggest backyard in the world!"

In this episode, Ernest flies to the city with the biggest backyard in the world, Brisbane, Australia, to enjoy everything from tasty treats and bridge climbs to outdoor escapes and, of course, koalas!

The adventure starts with a breathtaking view of the city atop the Story Bridge, as Ernest joins fellow adrenaline-seeker Luke Fraser for a 250 foot climb to the top. Next, Ernest takes a stroll around Downtown Brisbane to appreciate the local artists and enjoy a rooftop mocktail at the Emporium Hotel. Ernest then hits the Howard Smith Wharves, a place to relax along the bank of the Brisbane River with many great spots to eat. One of these eateries includes Yoko, where Ernest enjoys Japanese izakaya-inspired dishes sourced fresh from the ocean.

Then, it’s time to get close to nature as Ernest pays a visit to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where educator Kayla introduces him to some of the fellow wildlife! Next, Ernest joins friend Lisa Groom for a walk through Tamborine National Park, to enjoy sights such as lush rainforests, waterfalls and eucalyptus groves. Ernest and Lisa then venture a few miles south to Lamington National Park, to take in more amazing sights over top of the rainforests.

Ernest then takes a ferry ride over to the Island of Minjerribah, otherwise known as North Stradbroke Island, to meet with founder of Yura Tours, Elisha Kissick. Elisha shares with Ernest stories handed down through her family and how she teaches the next generation to care for the land. Ernest then joins Elisha for a potluck, where they enjoy ugari clams and other eats amongst the company of family.
