Ep 204 - Kansas: America’s Heartland

“It took us going around the world, to be ready to come back to it - to come back home.” —Kristen Bush

Ernest’s visit to the Sunflower State starts with a conversation with his friend, Phil S. Dixon, about segregation in sports and education, and Kansas City’s deep roots of Negro League Baseball.

In Wichita, Ernest chats with fellow filmmaker Rodrick Pocowatchit about the importance of storytelling and “place” in Native American tradition.

Alice and George Potts, retired schoolteachers, take Ernest to the Great Plains Nature Centre to learn about the natural environment of the region.  Their son, Ernest’s good friend Rolf Potts, is an author and the original “digital nomad.” The duo check out the Coronado Heights Castle, which was built in the 1930s, and chat about the challenges of finding a long-term relationship as perpetual travelers.
