Ep 101 - Nashville: City of Muses

“In Nashville, being a musician is revered, it’s respected. So, it’s a really special place for musicians and artists in general. And the food here is amazing.” —Mickela Mallozzi

Nashville—aka Music City, USA—is chock full of artistic inspirations, from its food and architecture to, of course, its vast and storied music scene.

Ernest’s visit to this city of muses starts off with a songwriting session with country music legends-in-the-making, Alyssa Trahan and Makayla Lynn, who regularly perform at the weekly Song Suffragettes live music event.

Then, he connects with fellow travel journalists Mickela Mallozzi, of PBS’s Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi, and Jeannette Ceja of JetSet with Jeannette, at the Dolly Parton-inspired rooftop bar, White Limozeen, to chat travel and Nashville.

After lunch, Mickela takes Ernest to one of her favorite places in town, the Art Deco-designed Frist Art Museum, where they tour the temporary collection with retired director Dr. Susan Edwards. Then, Ernest continues on his museum kick with a visit to the impactful new National Museum of African American Music, guided by curator Dr. Steven Lewis.

Finally, Ernest re-connects with Jeannette at her family’s restaurant, La Hacienda Taquería, for a delicious denouement to his time in Nashville, city of muses!
