Ep 202 - Natchez: The Little Easy
“All places have their histories – but it’s the world we’re building today, for tomorrow, that counts.” —Ernest White II
Natchez, Mississippi, known as The Little Easy, lies 285 miles upriver from New Orleans and is bursting with history, culture, traditions, and stories.
In this episode, Ernest starts out with a visitation to the foundational people of the region with storyteller Jennifer Ogden Combes. He cooks, eats, and chats about the origins of Soul Food with chef and educator Jarita Frazier-King, then visits with Ginger Hyland at The Towers, a restored antebellum mansion, to explore its large collection of antiques, furnishings, and historical items.
He has a fascinating conversation with innkeeper Deborah Cosey about the history and legacy of Concord Quarters, the restored former 19th century slave quarters that is now a bed and breakfast, and does more cooking – and eating – with chef Ashley Allen, and more!
