Ep 206 - San Francisco: America’s Boom Town
“San Francisco didn’t become a multicultural city – it was born a multicultural city right from the very start.” —Spud Hilton
San Francisco (a.k.a. Fog City), home of Haight-Ashbury, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge, is also–according to legend–the birthplace of the Chinese fortune cookie.
In this episode, Ernest returns to his old stomping grounds to catch up with a few good friends. He starts out in Chinatown with Master Chef Martin Yan to learn about woks and how fortune cookies are made – and of course eat some delicious farm-to-table food!
Ernest’s good friend and award-winning writer Spud Hilton takes him up to Telegraph Hill to check out the amazing views, along with a tour of the Coit Tower and its controversial murals that depict 1930s city life. After all the lovely views, it was time for a vegan BBQ meal in the bustling Mission District with Ernest’s homie, entrepreneur Walter Hughes Jr., followed by a necessary post-BBQ walk in the historic Presidio Trails area with Ana Ayala, Founder of Project Open Hand.
