Casablanca: Moroccan Delight

Casablanca, the largest and most underrated city in Morocco, is a bustling metropolis that offers a unique blend of old and new. Known for its historic landmarks, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture, Casablanca is a city that everyone should see at least once.

The city’s culture revolves around ideas of embracing both traditional and modern ways of life. Many of the historical sites are very well appreciated and protected by the country and its citizens. For instance, one of the best ways to experience the city’s rich history is by visiting its old Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Medina is a labyrinth of narrow streets and alleys lined with colorful shops, traditional Moroccan houses, and historic landmarks. Here, you’ll find the stunning Hassan II Mosque, the largest functioning mosque in Africa and the seventh largest in the world.

When walking through the city’s many markets and vendors, it would be impossible not to stop and sample some of the local dishes. Moroccan cuisine is famous for its unique flavors and spices. Some of the must-try dishes include tagine, a savory stew made with meat, vegetables, and spices, and couscous, a staple dish made with steamed semolina and served with a variety of meats and vegetables. Both are truly delicious and a must try if you are visiting the city. No matter your reasons for visiting the city, Casablanca is guaranteed to provide you with a sense of wonder and excitement. Be sure to visit the world class heritage sites and expand your palette with the flavors of the local cuisine.
