Tajikistan: Crown of the World

Tajikistan is a fascinating country in Central Asia with a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes. The Pamir Mountains, also known as the “Roof of the World,” offer stunning views and opportunities for hiking, trekking, and mountaineering. Mountains cover 90% of the country, making it the third highest in the world and providing some of the most surreal and breathtaking views you will ever see. 

In addition to its natural attractions, Tajikistan has a rich cultural heritage. The capital city of Dushanbe is a must-see destination with its lively bazaars, museums, and monuments. One of the most notable is Navruz Palace, one of the largest tea houses in the world and known for its intricately detailed architecture. 

For the perfect people-watching spot, we recommend stopping in at Chaykhona Rokhat, a teahouse that pairs elaborate Tajik craftsmanship with brutalist Soviet concrete architecture. The combination is unusual yet oddly charming and paints an interesting picture of the country’s history. 

Toqi restaurant is the perfect local spot for grabbing a bite to eat. With everything from warm stews to freshly made Tajik bread, everything is made from fresh local ingredients. The country takes pride in producing fresh produce without the use of pesticides or additives. Tajik cuisine is a unique blend of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and Russian influences. Traditional dishes include plov, rice pilaf with meat and vegetables, and shurpa, a hearty soup made with lamb or beef. Tea is the most popular beverage in Tajikistan, and it is often served with sweets or dried fruit. There’s no better place to sample the local cuisine.
