FLY BROTHER Radio #008: Educator & Blogger Lillie Marshall
"There’s a beautiful complement to be had with a teacher who teaches their rear off during the year and spends their summers exploring the world...and broadening their understanding of the world by exploring it.” —Lillie Marshall
On this episode of the FLY BROTHER Radio Show, Ernest sits down with educator, traveler, and blogger extraordinaire Lillie Marshall. She chats with Ernest about her unique path to becoming a travel blogger, the importance of travel in education, balancing career and family, and a whole lot more.
Lillie started her career fresh out of college, teaching juniors and seniors in high school. After five years, she was on the brink of quitting her job but decided to take a leave of absence instead and travel around the world. Along the way, she started her blog, extended her stay in Southeast Asia, taught in a small village in Ghana for a few months, and explored parts of Europe with her family.
Although she went back to the U.S., Lillie explains how she loves teaching and still finds different ways to fuel her wanderlust, including taking her own students on an impactful trip to China. Ernest and Lillie also discuss the intersection of education and travel and how she uses her own personal adventures to bring new perspectives to her students, as well as others around the world through her other website TeachingTraveling.
Throughout the episode, Lillie and Ernest dish details on what they love about India, their experiences moving about the world as tall travelers, as well as Lillie’s hopes for her future solo travel now that her two daughters are getting older. Lillie also speaks on what it’s like to work with hotels, travel brands, and destinations as a travel blogger.
